Books On My Spring 2022 TBR

I always love these prompts by That Artsy Reader Girl because it’s a good chance to re-set my goals for the year. Here are 10 books I’m hoping to read in the next couple of months.

1. The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina by Zoraida Cordova

I’m actually in the middle of this one, and it is just as good as I wanted it to be. The magical realism is rich and alluring, and the characters are understated in the perfect way. I’m hoping to finish it before long.

2. African Town by Irene Latham and Charles Waters

This is another one I’m working my way through. It’s a historical fiction novel about the last known group of Africans to be illegally transported via the Transatlantic Passage. It is absolutely heart-wrenching but well worth the read.

3. The Sentence by Louise Erdrich

Louise Erdrich is of course my favorite author, and my partner bought me this book for Christmas. It’s high on my priority list, as soon as I finish the ones I’m reading right now.

4. The Likeness by Tana French

This is book 2 of a series I started recently with my book club, and of course I’ve raved about how much I loved The Witch Elm. I love the way Tana French sets up her mysteries and drops little hints all the way through.

5. Saga by Brian K. Vaughan

At this point I feel like I’ve been reading this graphic novel for ages. Saga is one of my partner’s all-time favorite reads, and he was so excited for me to read it too. It’s of course as fantastic as he said, but I just haven’t had enough time to finish it.

6. All Her Little Secrets by Wanda M. Morris

This is a mystery novel that I won in a drawing at my local library. I started it right away but then my time was sucked up by other things ever since. I’m hoping to finally get back into it once I get through a few more in my lineup.

7. In the Serpent’s Wake by Rachel Hartman

Several years ago I just happened upon Tess of the Road, the first book in this series, and it very quickly became one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve been waiting on a sequel ever since, but ever since it came out I haven’t had a chance to read it. I’m really hoping to dive in soon, though.

8. The Ritual by Adam Nevill

As most of you probably already know, I’m a huge horror fan. I saw this movie a couple of years ago and loved it, not knowing that it was a book first. My partner bought this one for me during one of Audible’s recent sales, and it’s been calling to me ever since.

9. The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James

Last year I read The Sun Down Motel by the same author, so I’m excited to see how this one turns out. The main character escaped abduction as a child and now she runs a true crime website. She has an accidental encounter with a young woman who is suspected of killing two men, and when they meet up, things get interesting. One of the things I liked the most about The Sun Down Motel was how it handled two simultaneous timelines, so I’m curious whether this will do that too.

10. Gallant by Victora Schwab

At this point I think I’m going to read just about anything that Victoria Schwab puts out – I was a big fan of her Darker Shade of Magic series, and everything she’s written since then has been just as good. In this one, the main character receives an invitation to Merliance School for Girls. Once she arrives, though, she finds that no one will admit to having invited her. Sounds like an interesting mystery and probably also a thriller.
